Dr Joseph Henry BVMS Cert SHP MRCVS

Joe graduated from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1998 and soon became predominantly a sheep and beef vet with an interest in disease prevention and health planning. As well as working in Northumberland, Joe has also spent time working in New Zealand and Poland.

Joe is an RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in ‘Sheep health and production’. He has trained vets nationwide in beef and sheep medicine. He has also provided the veterinary input to the East Northumberland farmer’s club benchmarking group since 2004.

He was instrumental in importing Smartshot B12 primelamb to the UK from New Zealand. He was also chosen to be part of the EBLEX Technical Advisory Group for the two-year project to evaluate KPIs for suckler herds and growing and finishing beef enterprises in England and presented this research to AHDB progressive beef farmers. Joe is current Junior Vice President of the Sheep veterinary Society.

Joe is committed to using all this experience to continue to help Northumberland’s farmers increase their productivity and profitability by getting optimum output and reducing the impact of disease with particular emphasis on forage based systems.

Outside work Joe is married and has 3 children and runs a farm with 140 ewes and 130 cattle.

Joe’s expertise and experience is a great asset to the Black Sheep flock.
